Lynchburg is a college town, and a lot of our aligner patients are Liberty University students who want to graduate with a better smile than they arrived with. Aligners are made for campus life: discreet in class and small groups, out for formals, intramurals photos, and graduation pictures, and easy to manage around a dining hall schedule since they come out for every meal. Timelines matter here too. Many cases finish in 6 to 12 months, which means treatment often fits comfortably inside a degree program with room to spare. Start as a sophomore, and there’s a very good chance the smile crossing the stage at Vines Center is the finished one. It’s never too late

Here’s the thing nobody tells adults: teeth don’t stop being movable at 25. As long as your gums and bone are healthy, adult teeth respond to aligner treatment just fine, and many of our patients are in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. The classic case? Crowding that crept back years after teen braces, once the retainer got lost in a college move. If that’s you, take some comfort: relapse cases are among the most predictable we treat, and they usually finish much faster than the original round of braces did.

• Relapse from old braces, teeth that drifted back over the years after the retainer was lost.
• Crowding on the lower front teeth as the jaw shifts subtly with age.
• Small gaps between front teeth that have widened over time.
• Crossbite or open bite that causes uneven wear or jaw fatigue.
• A smile you’ve always wanted to improve but never had time for braces.
• Pre-restorative alignment, straightening teeth before veneers, crowns, or bridges so the final result is balanced.

What makes adult Invisalign different

Adults have fully developed jaws, established habits, and often more wear and tear on the teeth than teens. That means planning has to account for crown margins, existing restorations, bite forces from grinding, and the way gums sit around restored teeth. Because Dr. Kim and Dr. Azevedo are your general dentists as well as your aligner doctors, every case is coordinated with the rest of your dental plan, so the alignment supports your long-term restorative and cosmetic goals, not just the cosmetic moment.

Fitting it into a busy life

• Check-ins every 6 to 8 weeks. Most run about 20 minutes and fit into a lunch break or between classes.
• Aligners come out for meetings, presentations, networking events, and meals, then back in for the rest of the day and overnight.
• No food restrictions: eat what you want with the aligners out, brush, and put them back in.
• Travel-friendly. Bring the case and your next 2 or 3 aligner sets; you can change them on schedule wherever work or break takes you.
